For those of you that have wanted to try your hand at writing, starting a blog is a great way to test the waters. Real estate blogs are simple to start up, and many sites let you use their space free. If you are unfamiliar with blogging, a blog is simply an online space in which you post your own thoughts and opinions on subjects of interest. For many people, it is like an online journal. But for real estate agents, blogs can offer so much more.
A real estate blog can act like a micro-website offering content that is specific to a specific area or specialization. Maybe you’d like to start a website for one of your farm neighborhoods or a custom site that talks about your specialization. This can be done with simplicity using a blog site. A blog can be a website about whatever real estate (or other) topic you desire.
The first step to starting a blog, of course, is finding a place to host it. There are a plethora of sites to use for your blogging space. There are many free options out there, as you may not want to spend money as a new blogger until you are sure you like it and its effective. A great site to check out is WordPress.com. There are several reasons why I would go with this one as a beginning.
- WordPress is simple to use. Unlike some sites, WordPress is not complicated and does not require a lot of formatting in order to add images, posts, or whatever to your blog.
- WordPress is search engine optimized. What this means is that your blog will be easily found through keyword or title searches in any search engine. This can help increase your blog audience and will make it easier for friends and clients to find your posts.
- WordPress is completely customizable. You have complete control over the look and feel of your blog and it is up to you how quickly and often the site is updated.
WordPress is not only easy to use and has many benefits for users, but it also has many great features. Some of them include built-in comments, multilingual, publishing tools, several theme options, easy installation and upgrade, and freedom to use your site for whatever you would like. The options are nearly endless with a WordPress blog.
What makes WordPress.com particularly great is that you can use it free. All you have to do is go to WordPress.com and click the button that says, “Get Started”. The site will have you fill out a quick form. Provide the information requested and scroll down to click the type of account you want. You will see that there are some paid accounts for more advanced, experienced bloggers, but as a newbie, the free account will be more than sufficient. You will have the option to upgrade your account later, should you desire to do so. After selecting the account type, continue to follow the prompts as the site walks you through the process of creating your blog. It is quite simple to do, and you will have your blog up and running in no time.
